REDRUTH ARE ALMOST SAFE

It was a big day at Redruth on Saturday, the final home game of the season, safety from relegation still not ensured, Craig Bonds final home game, head-coach Ashley Morcom’s final time in charge at the Rec, Tom Notman and Craig Williams both running out for 100th appearance and Hon.Sec Roger Watson’s final home game before relinquishing his post in the summer.

CUP EXIT SEES SEASON END IN SIGHT

The Cornish Pirates’ 16-14 loss in the Quarter-final of this season’s British & Irish Cup at the Mennaye Field on Sunday against an excellent Pontypridd side once again condemns the club to an early season finish for the second year running.

The Welsh Premiership leaders were well worth their win and now look forward to a semi-final against Leinster A on their Sardis Road pitch.

NOWELL SCORES FIRST TRY FOR ENGLAND IN ROMAN ROMP

England did the business in Rome against Italy on the final day of this season’s RBS 6 Nations winning 52-11 with Newlyn’s favourite son Jack Nowell getting his first try for England to cap a fine tournament.

England’s big win wasn’t enough as Ireland defied the odds to defeat France in Paris 22-20 to take the title and crown a fitting send-off for Brian O’Driscoll.

HIGH DRAMA IN SCOTLAND

Slight change of scene for me last weekend as I flew up to Edinburgh for the Scotland v France game.

The weekend started off with a trip down to the Borders to watch the Under 20’s game between Scotland and France at Netherdale, Gala.

With three wins already under the belt the French were looking to make it four as they seek a Grand Slam at this level.
