BillNo doubt that the game of the weekend in the southwest was the derby match played at Sandy Park between the unbeaten Exeter Chiefs and the Cornish Pirates in the Championship.
The Devon side reached the half-way mark of the regular season with another win their eleventh over their Cornish rivals winning a hard fought match 22-15.

BillThe Cornish Pirates are going through a pretty tough time at the moment and on Saturday London Welsh heaped more misery on the Cornish side with a 34-10 win at Old Deer Park in the Championship.

BillIn front of an excellent 4,306 Easter Sunday crowd at Camborne the Pirates defeated old foes Plymouth Albion 30-14 in a gripping National League 1 encounter. A result which leaves Graham Dawe’s charges uncomfortably too close to the relegation battle with tricky fixtures to come against Leeds and Moseley!
For the Pirates it was a first success in the league against Albion since the 2005/6 season.

BillIt’s been a pretty tough week for all involved with the Cornish Pirates as firstly head coach Mark Hewitt was dismissed following Sunday’s dismal exit from the National Trophy and then the players who are contracted for next season were told that they will be taking a substantial paycut! Brett Davey was given the role of acting head coach for the rest of the season,

BillThe dream of the EDF-Energy National Trophy quarter-final tie between Mount’s Bay and the Cornish Pirates was shipwrecked good ‘n proper at Meadow Lane on Sunday afternoon as Nottingham dispatched a sadly lacklustre Cornish side by 39-8 to book their place at the Mennaye to face the Bay.
It was a performance that has been described by those that were there as “embarassing”,
