TASC was invited to attend the 2015 Festival with the trade-stand, but was unable to participate owing to work commitments, however TASC members Phil & Marina Trevarton met with Tony Payton and Darryl Cook to present and donate training balls for the 2015 tournament.
As a result Trelawny’s Army Supporters Club is proud to announce that it will provide the match-balls for the 2016 Tournament.
This extension to our sponsorship activity is aimed at assisting youth development by providing new rugby balls for Clubs involved in nurturing foundation rugby skills and is in addition to our sponsorship to Penryn’s U7 & U8 Tag Festival.

Sunday 10th May – Next weekend, Cornwall RFU Mens team will have their second County Championship game away to Kent at Gravesend RFC.
One important point of note is the post code for satnav users. The Gravesend club official post code will direct fans to the wrong place! We strongly recommend the code to use, especially by the bus drivers is DA12 2PP.
Many of the drivers ignore this and get lost as there are a number of places the other one can lead to.
That said, We hope everyone makes it safely to the ground next weekend and very much look forward to a sea of Trelawny’s Army and our black and gold at the ground.

Trelawny’s Army Dinner & Dance 2015 – Report & Photos by Chairman Phil Trevarton
I am pleased to report that our Annual Dinner & Dance was a great success this year, although tinged with a little sadness with the news of the passing of Member No. 1 – Richard Major who was a regular supporter of the event.
Once again the Ponsmere Hotel at Perranporth served us a hearty three-course meal and was greatly enjoyed by the 30 members present. The Club is once again in debt to Carol Seymour for her organisation and her delicate touch in decorating the tables.
Our chosen guest this year was our first web-master John Prowse, accompanied by wife Marion. John spoke of how he met Trelawny’s Army members at away games and offered his services to set up a web-site for the Club whilst living on the Isle of Wight. It is true to say that we were one of the first rugby web-site in the Country and at one stage rated in the top ten rugby sites nationally. John thanked in particular Bill Hooper and the late Tom Prout for supplying material for the site and maintaining its vibrancy. John, after running the site for some 20 years felt it was time for a fresh insight and is truly pleased in the format that new web-master Phil Richards has introduced to the site.

A number of presentations were made at the evening; firstly a pair of Cornish cuff-links was presented to John Prowse and a bouquet to wife Marion. Ed Head was presented with the Men’s’ Bowling Trophy, whilst partner Jenny Walker was presented with the Ladies Bowling Trophy. The final presentations were firstly to Trixie Gordon for her many years of service to the Club and finally Ian Gordon was presented with a pair of Pasty Cufflinks from Club Chairman Phil Trevarton for his personal support over the years.
This concluded the formal proceedings of the evening, and the assembled members retired to the bar where our chosen entertainment for the evening commenced.

We were entertained this year by the Cadgwith Singers who serenaded us into the late hours with popular local songs and enjoyed by all members present.
A great time was had by all and we now look forward to the remainder of the rugby season and the commencement of the Bill Beaumont County Championship and the progress of the County U.20 team in the later stages of their competition.

It is with great sorrow that the Army learned that one of our original members Richard Major passed away following a long battle with illness.
Richard had the distinction of carrying membership card No. 1 for TASC. He was very proud to have that membership number.
A staunch supporter of the County team, Richard also worked tirelessly as a committee member for many years, and took many of the excellent photographs in our archive.
We shall miss him on the touchline as we will his comradeship.
We extend to Anne, the family and friends our sincerest and heartfelt condolences at this sad time.

TASC members were at Ivybridge on Sunday to support Cornwall Under 20s against Devon. Sadly Cornwall couldn’t get the win they needed to ensure a home quarter-final as Devon won with the last kick of an enthralling game 31-29. Cornwall must now travel to face Kent on Sunday 15th February. Following the game a presentation was made to County Coach Mike Rawlings and Team Secretary Chris Lea.
The date and venue of the next TASC committee meeting is Wednesday 4th March 7:30 p.m. at St. Austell RFC, Tregorrick Park.
All members are welcome to attend.

TRELAWNY’S ARMY MEMBERS ELECT THEIR PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
WINNER OF THE BILL OSBORNE MEMORIAL SHIELD
With Cornwall once again reaching a Twickenham final in the Bill Beaumont Cup it was inevitable that there would again be no shortage of candidates in the running for the Cornwall Senior Player of the Year award, to succeed last year’s winner Darren Jacques now with Truro.
In the end a very close poll saw REDRUTH scrum-half GREG GOODFELLOW emerge as the player with the most votes, defeating by just one vote former winner of the award, Cornwall skipper and lock Ben Hilton (Cornish All Blacks), with prop forward Jamal Ford-Robinson, formerly with Cambridge but now at the Cornish Pirates finishing third in the poll.
Picture – Simon Bryant Iktis photo – Goodfellow on the break at Twickenham
Goodfellow a former Scotland Under 21 player played for Hawick and the professional Borders Reivers North of the Border player before heading South turning out for Mount’s Bay, Coventry and the Cornish Pirates before signing for Redruth. Following a first spell at the Reds Goodfellow spent some time in France playing for Figeac before returning to Redruth were he has remained since.
Goodfellow blessed with an electric pace constantly put Cornwall on the front-foot throughout the campaign making him a firm favourite with the crowd.
He was instrumental in the build-up to both Cornish tries scored at Twickenham by Truro winger Lewis Vinnicombe and prop Ford-Robinson.
Commentating on his award after Redruth’s win against Canterbury Goodfellow said. “It’s a real privilege and honour but much of my performance comes off the back of the hard work the rest of the team puts in. Naturally I am delighted to have been voted the recipient of the shield for last season and I thank all those members of Trelawny’s Army who voted for me.”
The TONY MEAD MEMORIAL SHIELD for the CORNWALL U.20 PLAYER goes to tight-head prop forward TYLER GENDALL, the young prospect spent last season with the St. Ives club his performances for the Hakes and Cornwall Under 20’s – when Cornwall reached the quarter-finals of the U.20 County Championship – saw him earn a Player Development Fund contract with the Cornish Pirates and described by Cornish Pirates’ forward coach Alan Paver as “A diamond in the rough.”

Definitely one to watch for the future. He has already made his Championship debut for the Pirates this season coming off the bench in the opening game against Yorkshire Carnegie at the Mennaye, and has been a regular in the match day squad so far this season, continuing to improve with each performance, evidenced again last Sunday when playing for the Cornish Pirates in the British and Irish Cup tie at the Mennaye against Bedford Blues.
Both players will receive their awards on Wednesday evening, at the St. Austell Brewery Visitor Centre, at the conclusion of TASC AGM, with BBC Radio Cornwall’s Dick Straughan being a special guest along with officials and coaching staff from Cornwall R.F.U.
More pictures of the evening are available via the TASC Facebook page.
There will be further comment, reaction and pictures from the evening in due course.
