Accessibility Statement

Trelawny’s Army wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnifiers or voice control, and people who find some colours or small text hard to read. This statement explains where we are, what we have done, and what we know is not yet right.

Our aim

We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. The site is run by volunteers and has not yet had an independent accessibility audit, so we cannot claim that it fully meets that standard. We have tested it ourselves using automated checks and keyboard testing, and we believe it meets many of the requirements, but this has not been confirmed by disabled users or by a specialist.

What we have done

  • All text and buttons use colours with enough contrast against their background, in both light and dark mode. The site follows your device setting for light or dark.
  • You can use the whole site with a keyboard. A clear gold-and-black outline shows where you are, and there is a “Skip to main content” link as the first item on every page.
  • The main menu, including the sub-menus and the phone-sized menu button, can be opened and used from the keyboard and is described properly to screen readers.
  • Pages have titles, headings and labelled sections, and the images we add have descriptive text, or are marked as decorative.
  • Links that open in a new tab say so to screen readers.
  • The site works when you zoom in or enlarge the text, and it does not scroll sideways on a phone.
  • Links and buttons are at least the recommended minimum touch size, or well spaced from their neighbours.
  • If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we do not show the cookie choice banner, which removes one more pop-up.

Known issues

  • The Facebook and Instagram feeds on the home page come from outside services. We have adjusted their colours, but we cannot control how they are built, and they may be harder to use with a screen reader.
  • Some older news items, photos and downloads (for example Word forms and PDFs), plus material in the archive, were added before we paid attention to accessibility. Some images may lack good descriptions, and some documents may not be fully accessible.
  • Videos embedded from other sites may not have captions.
  • As a small club, we are not able to pay for formal accessibility accreditation, and have not yet tested with a range of screen readers. If anyone reading this is able to help there, please contact webmaster as below.

Tell us about a problem

If you cannot use part of this site, or you need something in a different format, please email webmaster@trelawnysarmy.org and tell us which page you were on and what went wrong. We will try to reply within ten working days and to fix the problem or find another way to get you the information. You can also find other ways to reach us on the Contacts page.

This statement was written on 11 October 2026 and describes the checks we made by that date. We will update it as we make further improvements.
