CHARLIE GOES TO HEVER CASTLE

ALFIE GOES TO KENT

Alfie Bear

Hello, my name is Alfie and I am a Cornwall Rugby Supporter. I went to Kent in May 2013 to watch Cornwall play rugby. It was a really close result; Cornwall scored 3 tries and won the game 23-17. It was a really wet and windy day and I was glad I wore my thick Black & Gold jumper to keep warm.

As well as watching the game I visited the Chatham Naval Dockyard Museum. It was really interesting. There were boats, buildings, exhibitions and a submarine to explore. Chatham Docks was used to build boats for the Royal Navy for over 400 years. Probably the most famous ship to be built there was HMS Victory in 1759-1765. It is preserved at Portsmouth (see right).

One on the ships you can see at Chatham Dockyard is HMS Cavalier, a World War II destroyer built at Chatham in 1944 which served in the Royal Navy for nearly 40 years.

Although it was a big ship the space inside was still quite small for all the crew to fit inside and some had to sleep in hammocks. A hammock is a sort of long canvas swing tied up with rope.

BUSTER GOES TO THE RAF MUSEUM

Buster and a Spitfire

Hello again, it's me, Buster, and I've been on another trip. This time I went to the RAF Museum at Hendon where I saw nearly 100 different aeroplanes and helicopters. Some of them are very old and are only made of wood, wire and canvas. Others flew during the Second World War and are really famous, like Spitfires, Hurricanes and Lancasters.

There was even an aeroplane that could land and take-off on water, a huge Sunderland Flying Boat.

My favouite was a shiny American fighterplane called a Mustang. It was all shiny and bright with a picture of Donald Duck painted on its engine cover.

I also liked a chubby yellow helicopter called a Whirlwind. It was used to rescue people from the sea and cliffs aound the coast.

Benjy Goes To Twickenham

Trelawny's Army are pleased to report that one of our Mascot Bears was taken to Twickenham by his owner, Harry Head, to watch the Bill Beaumont County Final in May.

Benjy bear

It was a big adventure for Harry and Benjy. They caught the TASC coach at Liskeard on Saturday morning and travelled to Reading for an overnight stay in a hotel before the match on Sunday.

Benjy enjoyed his favourite breakfast of sultanas and oranges before leaving the hotel for Twickenham to see England play the Barbarians and Cornwall play Lancashire.

Harry and Benjy enjoyed watching both games, especially Cornwall play Lancashire. It's most likely that Benjy is named after Cornwall Head Coach Dave 'Benjy' Thomas.

So it will be another year before Harry and mum Jenny will find out whether Cornwall will qualify for another Bill Beaumont Final, but they both enjoyed their trip with Trelawny's Army.

Harry will receive a small present for sending his photo to the Black & Gold.

If you sent us a picture of your bear we may publish it in a future Black & Gold.

My name is Buster and I am a Trelawny's Army Bear.

In March my owners took me on holiday to Salisbury. It was very cold and it was snowing when we got to a very special monument nearby called Stonehenge.

My paws got really cold, but it was very interesting.

Stonehenge is one of the most famous sites in the World; it is the remains of a ring of standing stones on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. Archaeologists, special scientists who study how people lived a long time ago, believe it was built from 4000 to 5000 years ago. Special stones called 'bluestones' were dragged all the way from Wales. That must have been really hard work, because they didn't have tractors and diggers back then, just ropes and wooden rollers to do all the work.

Salisbury is a very pretty city and has a huge church called a Cathedral. Inside the Cathedral there are long stone corridors and it reminded me of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You could almost believe that Harry Potter could suddenly come round the corner with Hermione and Ron.

Perry bear

My name is Perry and I am a Trelawny's Army Perran Bear.

In June my owners took me on holiday to Italy to see their aunty. I flew on an aeroplane for the first time, it was very exciting.

In the garden I saw little lizards running around, they were very fast.

I also had a trip into the mountains which were very high and I met some cows. They only live in the mountains in the summer because the snow is 3 metres deep in the winter.

One hot and sunny day I went to Venice to see the Gondolas.

They are funny long thin boats that people ride on in the canals.

Venice is a strange city, instead of roads everywhere there are canals full of water and lots and lots of people visit there because it is so pretty.

My owners took me on a train ride to the top of Mount Snowdon, 1085 metres high; you could see for miles and miles. The little train chuffed and chuffed to get to the top.

If you own a Trelawny Bear, Perran Bear or one of our little Cornwall bears take it on your next holiday, or even just a day trip, and send us a photo of where your bear has been.
